The Habi Home Story: Celebrating Handcrafted Legacy and Ethical Craftsmanship
At Habi Home, we proudly celebrate the rich legacy of craftsmanship and resilience that has been passed down through generations in our family. Our story begins with my grandfather, Alex, who, as a 14-year-old orphan, learned the art of weaving rattan out of necessity. Despite his small stature, he skillfully wove the outer skin of rattan into Solihiya mats, traditionally used for chair backs and seats long before the rise of plastic and mass production.
My grandmother, raised by her single mother, contributed to their livelihood by twisting reeds into ropes for basket weavers. Together, they embodied the spirit of hard work and ingenuity, transforming humble materials into functional and beautiful objects.
At Habi Home, we honor this time-tested legacy of industry and perseverance. We are committed to creating simple, functional pieces that not only enhance homes but also support the talented artisans who craft them. As a third-generation member of my family working with handwoven natural plant fibers, I am dedicated to promoting the use of organic, non-toxic, and biodegradable materials.
